Hundreds come together for clean Seppa

Seppa, Jul 28: Hundreds of people gathered in the general ground of Seppa town to conduct a mass social service early in the morning today with the motto “Lets clean our Seppa town”. This idea was mooted and popularized through a social networking website called Facebook.
The cleanliness drive covered areas, including Type I & II, LC line, DC office area premises, General ground and Bazar line. NGOs and groups like the Kra Dadii Club, the Kameng Eco Adventure Club, Girls hostel team of Government Higher Secondary school, Seppa, Changtam Aane Society and Bagang Youths joined hand with the organizers for making the social service a grand success. Fifty small school children from Govt. Primary School, Forest Colony also participated in the drive. Residents of Type I colony came out of their houses to support this event by actively taking part in the cleanliness drive.
Nyishi Elite Society general secretary and a prominent citizen of Seppa Vijay Sonam was also present on the occasion and spread the cleanliness awareness message among the colony dwellers.
Former AAPSU member Norbu Sonam mentioned that this cleanliness drive will be a failure if people are not aware and understand the importance of cleanliness.
EKSCWO member, Tiwan Dodum said everyone should come together to make such drives successful. If people keep their surroundings neat and clean, Seppa will become one of the cleanliest places.
Er. Ajit Tajo Sonam, Chapo Phassang, Dhon Bagang, Ashok Doka, J. Jomoh and few who came specially from Itanagar only for this service were little disappointed as the participation from the teenagers and Government officials was almost nil. They said, participation of the youth could have boosted the morale of the participants and would have conveyed a positive message to the masses of Seppa town. The organizers have also planned take initiative in organising such programme in future but sought support from people to keep the town clean. According to them, Seppa town is one of the most beautiful yet dirtiest towns of the state. They hope that people of Seppa would realize the importance of cleanliness.
APCC lauds police, urges to nab mastermind
ITANAGAR, Jul 28: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has lauded Capital Police led by Superintendent of Police Hibu Tamang for their dedication to solve April 15 Arunachal Times attack case.
The APCC appealed all section of society to cooperate police so that mastermind who is absconding at present is arrested at the earliest. It further appealed the police to apprehend the mastermind at any cost.
The APCC hoped that police will soon crack the case of attack on Tongam Rina, associate editor of this daily. Further, the Congress party requested NGOs, intellectuals and individuals to come forward to fight against such criminals whose main motive is to create fear psychosis amongst the common citizen of the Capital Complex.
It further urged the administration and judiciary not to give leniency to such culprits and said that exemplary punishment be given to them so that no one repeat dastardly act of vandalism or attack on individual in the near future.
Orgs propose joint peace rally
ITANAGAR, Jul 28: A joint peace march would be taken out in Aalo township by various organizations/associations and NGOs on August one demanding justice for Tongam Rina, Associate Editor of this daily, who was shot at by miscreant/s on July 15 last.
The decision was taken in a joint meeting convened by Karko Ao Welfare Association which was attended by representatives from Paktu Ao Welfare Association, Paktu Ao Youth Welfare Association, Aalo units of Galo Welfare Society and Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society, Dego Panya Bogdo Rigo Youth Federation, Aalo Bango Students Union and senior citizens. A memorandum would also be submitted to the DC and SP demanding early apprehension of the assailant/s of Tongam.
The meeting which was chaired by former minister Doi Ado, vehemently condemned the attack on the journalist and termed it as an act of cowardly. While appreciating the Capital Police, especially SP Hibu Tamang, for making a major breakthrough in April 15 attack case, the meeting hoped that apprehension of the culprits involved in the attack could provide vital clue to the July 15 incident.
PPUEA urges NEEPCO to recruit local youths
ITANAGAR, Jul 28: Papum Pare Unemployed Engineers’ Association (PPUEA) today vehemently criticized the power developers, particularly North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) for its alleged failure to recruit maximum numbers of local youth of the state in the already commissioned or ongoing NEEPCO projects.
NEEPCO had chalked out plan to harness 1115 MW of power in Arunachal Pradesh. It had already commissioned Ranganadi HE project with capacity of 405 MW and implementation of NEEPCO’s 600 MW Kameng HE Project and 110 MW Pare HE project are going on. However, NEEPCO has recruited only 0.13 per cent (per MW) of local people in comparison to 3.2 per cent in other North East states, the PPUEA claimed.
Alleging that NEEPCO has failed to fulfill its assurance as per the MoU signed with the state Govt, the Association further criticized the state Govt for its alleged failure to put pressure on NEEPCO to fulfill its commitment.
Though the 60 per cent works of the ongoing Pare hydel project and Kemeng hydel project have been completed, not a single local youth was recruited against C & D posts, the PPUEA claimed.
Pointing out recent NEEPCO advertisement for recruitment of trainee engineers and officers, the Association resented that the Corporation did not keep any post reserved for the STs. PPUEA appealed to the NEEPCO authorities to reconsider the recruitment criteria so that maximum Arunachalee people could apply for the posts under ST quota. It further said that interview for the said posts should be held at respective project affected area.
The Association further requested the state Govt to intervene in the activities of the power developers in the state for the interest of project affected people and educated unemployed engineers.
Power crisis hits Pasighat people

PASIGHAT, Jul 28: The power crisis in Pasighat town has reached its zenith. The entire Siang belt is blessed with 24 small/mini Hydels (approximately). If these projects are well maintained, it could generate enough electricity for the town and the adjoining areas.
Unfortunately, the people are forced to live in darkness caused by power cut. They are now looking for alternative power sources like generators, and solar power etc.
When enquired, one Onong Perme, a resident of Pasighat said, “the joy of people know no bounds when the power is being supplied. But the exuberance does not last long as the appearance of the light happens only for a transient period”.
“I have managed private generator with my hard earned money. I have no other option but to use it as we can not rely on the power department for proper power supply” he added.

and meetings were organized, memorandums were submitted urging the authorities to
improve the power scenario. But to no avail. It seems that state government is giving

Hopefully, Pasighat Peoples Welfare Committee (PPWC) has taken bold steps against irregular power supply and moved the power department and administration for early solution to the problem.
The people of the Pasighat are still looking forward with a hope that the administration and the elected representatives will give a serious thought and find a permanent solution to the chronic power problem.
47 Hepatitis B positive cases detected

ITANAGAR, Jul 28: The Heema Hospital, in collaboration with ZYDUS Multinational Company Limited organized a free Hepatitis ‘B’ screening camp at Heema Hospital, here on the occasion of World Hepatitis Day today.
The screening test was Altogether, 580 persons were screened out by a team of doctors led by Heema Hospital, Medical Superintendent Dr. Kesang W Thongdok and ZYDUS Heptiza, North Lakhimpur Therapy Manager Mrinal Bora. Out of the 580 persons examined, 47 positive cases of Hepatitis B were detected.
Dr Kesang informed that 55 per cent fee deduction for HBV DNA test will be provided to all the detected cases by the concerned company. He urged the people to avail such medical camp in near future and also to take Hepatitis B vaccine to prevent hepatitis infection.
Last year also Heema Hospital along with ZYDUS Company had conducted free Hepatitis B screen test at Heema Hospital where 35 positive cases of Hepatitis B were detected.
It is worth mentioning that the sign and symptoms of hepatitis B usually appear about two to three months after the person is infected.
Acute Hepatitis B sign and symptoms may have abdominal pain, dark urine, joint pain, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, weakness and fatigue, diarrhea and mild fever. Chronic Hepatitis B sign and symptoms are headache, itchy skin, light colored feces etc.
The world statistic says “1.4 million people suffer from hepatitis A, two billion people suffer from hepatitis B, while 150 million people are chronically infected with the hepatitis C virus. India is home of above 3 crore hepatitis patients.
The Hepatitis B virus mainly spread through infected needles, shared needles during drug abuse, infected unscreened blood products, tattoos needles, sexual contact with infected person and infected mother to infants during pregnancy etc.
8th Independent Running Trophy Football Tournament begins
ITANAGAR, Jul 28: The 8th Independent Running Trophy Football Tournament-

The scorers were Roshan Ramching (15 min), Gungte Chape (51 min), Kipa Bharat (73,78 min) and Bialok Tani (90 min).
Eighteen teams from capital complex are participating in the tournament which aims to promote and encourage the youths towards Sport.
Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Yarum Tari and Takam Tayum, Finance Secretary, All Nyishi Student Union (ANSU).
Both Tari and Tayum encouraged the participating teams to maintain discipline and sportsman spirit while taking part in such competitions.
Tayum highly praised GHYC for organizing the tournament for the last eight years smoothly without any assistance from the government.

Water stagnation in Ngorlung village causes problem

RUKSIN, Jul 28: Heavy rainfall in East Siang district over the last couple of days caused water clogging in several places, worsening the rural roads and adding woes to the commuters.
Heavy downpour cased water stagnation at Mirem-
“The PWD department did not feel it necessary to construct a culvert at portion to drain out the accumulated rain water. Now, we are suffering a lot due to short sightedness of the departmental engineers”, rued Meera Tagi, a housewife.
The same problem was also seen at Ruksin township due to non starting of the much awaited drain construction works in the township.
According to public leaders of the village, the PWD department was repeatedly moved to construct a culvert at Ralung portion of MMJ road, but to no avail.

AR nabs drug peddler
ITANAGAR, Jul 28: Assam Rifles (AR) nabbed a drug peddler and recovered about 750 gms opium worth Rs.20,000 in Tirap district yesterday.
The drug peddler Thowang Homtok was apprehended by AR during a routine checking of APST bus yesterday.
Apprehension of the individual has not only dented the morale of the drug peddler but also gave a major blow to the drug trafficking racket in Noglo, an Army release said.
‘Voice of East Kameng’ gets underway
ITANAGAR, Jul 28: The first ever Nyishi Artist Voice of East Kameng organized by East Kameng Nyishi Artist Society got underway at Seppa.
The first elimination round was participated by 20 artists.
More about 70 artists participated in the audition round held on July 25.
The theatre round would be conducted on August 12, at School Auditorium, Seppa, where five artists would be selected for the mega final round.
The Mega final round for the Voice of East Kameng would be conducted on August 16, at School Auditorium, Seppa.

Cancel the ‘malafide’ order, says APPDSU
ITANAGAR, Jul 28: All Papum Pare District Students’ Union (APPDSU) demanded the Capital
administration to immediately cancel/recall the order issued under Rule 127 Sub-
The cabinet decision taken for regularizing all govt. land under occupation of private individuals, state and central govt. establishments was neither passed in the form of bill nor published in the official Gazette yet, the APPDSU said, adding, therefore, the question of implementing the Cabinet decision by the DC and LRSO, Capital through passing such order does not hold any justification.
The union sought clarification from the department concerned as to why it did not feel necessary to publish or inform the people of the state on such major decision of the government and under whose command/direction the notification was concealed for the last three months until The Arunachal Times revealed it.
The Union further demanded the DC and LRSO, Capital to immediately cancel all the land allotment, if issued to any one from the office concerned from June 20 in connection to the order issued from the Commissioner (Land Management), Itanagar on May 24, 2012.
In the meantime, APPDSU appreciated the remarkable job done by the Chief Estate Officer, Govt. of A.P in passing order against the illegal construction activities in the entrance of the DNGC, Itanagar, which the union was pursuing for last many months.
